The BOLD Action Briefing Q1 2024 Newsletter

Updated: Jul 2

Welcome to my first quarterly newsletter. As we head towards the Easter holiday for a well-earned break, I can’t believe it’s already the end of March! I wanted to share some highlights with you and to let you know what’s been happening behind the scenes for Penny Wood Talks. Enjoy…

Behind the Scenes

Volunteer Mentoring

One of my highlights was having the opportunity to get involved in volunteer mentoring with the Empowering Girls initiative. The scheme is all about supporting Year 9 girls in schools in Exeter, UK, allowing them to explore their future potential in all areas, build their confidence and develop their aspirations. It’s incredibly satisfying and I’m looking forward to starting with a new set of mentees after Easter.

I continue through the Institute of Leadership and Management’s Accredited Mentor scheme, to mentor professionals and leaders across a variety of different industries. It’s great to be able to give back to my industry and to support those professionals who I know will benefit from mentoring.

Interviews and Articles

I’ve had the pleasure to be a guest on a podcast talking about leadership, my own leadership journey, sharing insights and advice for business leaders.

Interview with Kaelan Moss – one of my clients Kaelan is a Marketing Cloud professional and he invited me to speak on his podcast about all things coaching and we talked about some of the challenges people face when developing themselves. It’s currently in post-production so I will post on my LinkedIn profile when it has been published.

Chartered Management Institute Article - I was delighted to be featured in a Chartered Management Insitute's article: "How to spot a perfectionist - and what to do if you are one?", around what triggers perfectionist traits and behaviours and how those triggers play out in real life? Click on the image above if you want to read the full article.

On that note, if you would like me to join your podcast for an interview, please reach out as I’d love to support you in the future.

LinkedIn Live Interviews - I’ve also hosted LinkedIn Live interviews with experts in different fields such as:

  •  Phil Holdsworth, Money Psychologist - your relationship with money

  •  Heidi Riezzo, HR Consultant - compassionate leadership

  •  Rachel Bell, Director, Stride Treglown - how to create a leadership travel challenge with a purpose?

It's great to be able to have meaninful conversations about topics that really matter to leaders.

Awards and Nominations

I had a lovely surprise email informing me that someone had anonymously nominated me for the Women in Business Virtual Speaker of the Year Award for 2024. Looking forward to progressing with that. Thank you to whoever you are for nominating me, it means a lot! The research and thought that goes into my presentations and workshops, the hours of preparation, the rehearsal, the tech, it’s all part of the journey of being a speaker so that I can be a contribution to all of you.

After a long journey, I achieved Chartered Manager status with the Chartered Management Institute. This is a tough award to get because you have to demonstrate through a rigorous assessment process, that you have a proven track record for leadership and management competence, knowledge, experience, professional standards and continued professional development. It’s about how you deliver excellence in leadership in your field, so I was delighted to finally achieve this level of success.

Client Successes

And what about all of you? In my first quarter I’ve seen many of my clients achieve some great results, especially leaders who’ve got out of their comfort zones and overcome some big challenges. Here are a few examples of some of the outcomes they achieved including:

  • Several individuals secured a new role/promotion/increased exposure in their organisation and industry that they never thought they could have achieved without coaching

  • Some experienced huge behaviour and mindset shifts, which opened up incredible new opportunities and greater success in lots of different areas whether that be in business or personal success

  • Some created and implemented changes in the way their team worked which resulted in more collaborative working, creating more meaningful engagement which delivered more successful outcomes

  • Several leaders have embarked on a public speaking journey with me, mastering their craft so that they can deliver speeches and presentations with confidence, passion, poise and power

It’s been amazing to see all the different results unfold and such a pleasure and an honour to be part of someone’s transformation and growth, getting the results and success they really want - and it’s why I love what I do.

And finally...

Very happy with my first quarter for this year serving all of you, delivering value, sharing knowledge, taking BOLD action, getting results, mastering my leadership and coaching craft. I’m excited to see what new opportunities the next quarter will bring.

I hope you enjoy my social media content, workshops and online free webinars. Please connect with me on LinkedIn @pennywood so that you keep in touch with what’s happening. I look forward to taking BOLD action and serving you all for the rest of the year and beyond.

For those of you taking time off over the Easter holiday period, I hope you have an enjoyable time with your friends and family and I’ll see you all soon.

Exciting times…

Penny
